Jolene - What Really Happened*

Posted on June 17, 2024  •  3 minutes  • 496 words

*Well, in my head anyway : )

I love the song “Jolene”, but I always thought it ended too soon. Eventually my brain decided it needed to fill in the details and well, the story went in a predictable direction from there lol.

I originally wrote this extension 7-ish months ago, but with it being Pride month now and all I figured this seems like a good time to post it.

Everything up to and including “Verse 3” are the original lyrics.

I hope you enjoy!!!

This is a parody of the song “Jolene” by the truly wonderful and fabulous Dolly Parton. Absolutely no infringement of the original/current/existing copyright is intended.

[Intro/Chorus]
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m begging of you, please don’t take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don’t take him just because you can

[Verse 1]
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene

[Verse 2]
He talks about you in his sleep
There’s nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, Jolene
And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don’t know what he means to me, Jolene

[Chorus]
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m begging of you, please don’t take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don’t take him just because you can

[Verse 3]
You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He’s the only one for me, Jolene
I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, Jolene

[Verse 4]
I see you when you’re walking near
I’ve only ever felt this fear
As I look into your lovely eyes, Jolene
Standing in your heels and dress
I’m really feeling quite the mess
I’ve never felt this way before, Jolene

[Chorus 2]
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I realize now it’s not about my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Thanks to you I finally understand

[Verse 5]
You really take my breath away
I really don’t know what to say
Please spend more time with me, Jolene
You know what would be really great
If me and you went on a date
I can see myself with you, Jolene

[Verse 6]
I think that I’m in love with you
And all I really want to do
Is kiss your lips and live with you, Jolene
I really want you in my life
I really wanna be your wife
What do you say will you marry me, Jolene?

[Chorus 2]
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I realize now it’s not about my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Thanks to you I finally understand
